Originating in the Azilal region of the High Atlas to the north-east of Marrakech, the Azilal rugs are a combination of virgin sheep’s wool and dyed wool. They usually have a creamy white background complemented with brightly coloured graphic abstract patterns like diamonds or squares. The inspiration for these graphic signs comes from nature and usually tells stories around the themes of protection, respect, fertility, positivity and good luck. This silky, fluffy rug handknotted according to ancient tribal skills is extremely soft underfoot and is a truly a striking piece of art for a sophisticated touch of authenticity in any contemporary interior.
